Arley Fort - Host: The Pickwick Pepperpots
1) Situated near to the bank of the English side of the River Severn.
2) Location also known as Upper Arley.
3) Please be aware that there are other arboretum's and sanctuaries in the
area. Don't go to
wrong one.
4) Do not confuse with the village of Alveley 3 miles up the road.
5) If you are approaching from the Welsh side of the river you must, depending
if you are
coming from the north or the south head for either Bridgnorth or Bewdley respectively
as these
are the only two local river crossing points.
6) From the north having crossed the river to the English side find the A458/A442
traffic island
Take the A442 south from this island signed to Kidderminster.This road runs
approx parallel to
the river. Using this traffic island in Bridgnorth as the datum, travel approx
8 miles to a crossroads.
7) At this point opposite a pub called The Red Lion turn right from the A442
into Lowe Lane. As
an advanced warning the turning is approx 1 mile after the village of Fenn
Green. If approaching
from the south on the A442 from Kidderminster turn left into Lowe Lane about
1 mile after passing
through the village of Shatterford. After approx 1.20 miles along Lowe Lane
turn right onto private
road advertising board adjacent will state Arley Estate Arboretum and Gardens.
There is also a brown
road sign stating Arley Arboretum. Follow road to official car park, which
is adjacent to fort like structure.
